We are working closely with our partner Veolia to ensure the most essential services can continue to be delivered safely. Our  approach has been carefully planned to minimise disruption as much as possible.

How have the services changed?

Waste types have been prioritised to ensure essential services remain in operation, allowing us to keep Bromley as clean and safe as possible.

What is my temporary collection service ?

• Food waste and non-recyclable refuse will be collected as per usual
• Plastic, glass and tins recycling will be collected as per usual
• Paper and card recycling where resources allow, we are collecting paper and card recycling. If we did not collect your paper recycling on your scheduled collection day between Monday 20 and Friday 24 April, we will return on Saturday 25 April.  Please leave out your recycling on Saturday so that we can return to collect
• Subscribers to the green garden waste collection service will receive collections on their scheduled collection days

If you live in a flat, your collections remain the same.

The following services are temporarily altered or suspended

• Supplementary recycling collections of batteries, textiles and small electrical items are temporarily suspended for all households except flats.
• One-off green garden waste sack collection bookings are temporarily suspended.
• Bulky Items service is temporarily suspended.
• Garden waste weekend sites are closed.
• Street cleaning services have been altered.

What should I do with my recycling?

The plastic, glass and tins recycling has now been resumed.

Where resources allow, we will attempt collection of paper and card recycling. Please bear with us if we do not collect, and store your recycling in a dry place until the following week.

Please note that the option to report a missed collection for paper and cardboard is not available at this time. We ask that you do not attempt to raise an enquiry through any route, as we make every effort to collect from as many houses as we can.

Please only place recycling in the non-recyclable refuse as a last resort.

We are accepting new requests for boxes as of Monday 20 April.

What should I do with my food waste?

Your food waste will be collected every week on your usual collection day. You can check your next collection day using the postcode look up on our waste services website. Please note that collections may take place at a different time than usual.

Food should be kept separate from refuse and placed in the lockable container to reduce the risk of pests splitting residual waste bags.

Wherever possible, we will continue to collect non-recyclable refuse and food waste separately to ensure that food waste is recycled into compost.

However, should we continue to have a temporary reduction of collection staff, we will resort to collecting the two waste types together. Then, food waste, with non-recyclable refuse, will be sent to an Energy Recovery Facility which harnesses power and heat for homes and businesses.

What should I do with my non-recyclable refuse ?

Your non-recyclable refuse will be collected every other week on your usual collection day. You can check your next collection day using the postcode look up on our waste services website. Please note that collections may take place at a different time than usual.

Please ensure that all bags are securely tied and follow the government guidance below if you are self isolating.

What to do if you’re self isolating

Households that are self isolating should follow the UK Government's 'Stay at home' advice which states:

• Store personal waste such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths securely within disposable rubbish bags.
• Place these bags into another bag, tied securely and keep separate from other waste.
• These bags should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your usual non-recyclable refuse.
• Please do not take this waste to Waldo or Churchfields Reuse and Recycling Centres.

What should I do with my green garden waste?

We resumed the green garden waste collection service on Monday 6 April.

Since the service was out of operation from Wednesday 25 March to Monday 6 April, you will receive an extension on your subscription, and this will happen automatically. There is no need for you to do anything - we will take care of this.

The option to report a missed collection for garden waste is available. Please note that collections may take place at a different time than usual.

We are now accepting new subscriptions to the green garden waste collection service and will be able to deliver your wheelie bin. Sign up with our form 

The green garden waste sack collections (stickers) are not operating during this time, and bookings can not be made for future collections. Any bookings made prior to 13 March 2020 will be honoured. Our phone line is not in operation.

Temporary green garden waste weekend sites are closed during this time.

What should I do with my bulky waste?

The bulky items service will temporarily discontinue, however any bookings made prior to 13 March 2020 will be honoured.

Residents should keep all bulky waste at their home until the service is able to start again.

Please do not dump your bulky waste as fly-tipping is illegal and you may be fined.

Reuse and recycling centres

Waldo Road and Churchfields Road recycling centres are closed following government advice.

Will street cleaning routines continue as normal?

Our street cleaning operatives are temporarily supporting essential recycling and waste collections throughout Bromley. We will operate a reduced street cleaning service by suspending mechanical sweeping across the borough and barrow men throughout the primary town centres of Bromley, Orpington, Penge, West Wickham and Beckenham.

We are monitoring the streets closely to remove fly-tips and waste wherever required, and street cleaning crews are servicing all recycling banks and litter bins to ensure that Bromley continues to be clean and safe
